For the past 3 years we have firmly established our roots in the education market. We have innovated, researched and refined methods for delivering world first technologies and methodologies to the South African and African education markets.
Our world is changing and technology is becoming an important instrument to use in teaching. Many technologies are continually entering the African market that have been primary designed for first world countries and have proven to work extremely well there. However, in South Africa and most African countries these models have broken down and simply don’t work. We have risen to the challenge to create a technology and methodology which complements our unique combination of cultures and learning environments. Our technology and methodology is being continually refined and researched in order to meet the unique needs of the markets we serve.
Our offerings include:
The AstraLab Compujector: A total ICT solution that replaces the need for a fully equipped computer laboratory with a single instrument for whole-class teaching. This technology consists of a computer processor with data projection built into one robust unit. It can be easily transported and setup. The Compujector can be effectively used in cases where security is a problem as the system can be stored in a strongroom when not in use. [click here] to find out more.
The AstraLab Reading Programme: Our drill and practice reading developer has been installed onto the compujector for classes larger than the ideal 25 learners. The areas of vocabulary, comprehension and content have been graded so that readers are exposed to the appropriate level at all times. All spelling used in our programme is SSAE aligned. (Standard South African English). [Click here] to find out more.
The AstraLab Methodology: The innovative AstraLab methodology is a whole-class approach to reading and comprehension practice. Learners interact with the reading programme through the compujector, their peers and the teacher throughout the reading lesson. This way, learners of differing backgrounds and cultures learn from each other and are enriched and sensitised to the reading exercises prior to the reading. This is where the AstraLab whole-class teaching methodology is so effective. Our research shows that in the traditional 1 computer : 1 learner reading development model, learners are left behind. In the AstraLab/whole-class model however, learners thrive. In our experience many learners feel isolated and alienated sitting by themselves at their own personal computer.
